History:
Calvert High is starting its 5th year of having VRC robotics team. Team 1670A has visited the world championship twice, in 2013 and 2010 and finished 7th in its division at the 2013 world championship in Anaheim, California. The A Team also finished in the top 8% overall at the world championship. Calvert High expanded into two teams, 1670A and 1670X after its first year.

Team organization
Both teams at Calvert are mentored by Robert Bryner, an electrical engineer who provides real-world experience and insight to help the teams come up with ideas and solutions. The teams are coached by Karl Sturge, a physics and PLTW instructor at Calvert with a degree in chemical engineering. The two teams work separately as individual competitors, but they often discuss progress they are making and share ideas. Most work is done after school working with Mr. Bryner 3-5 days per week, but the teams also take advantage of their practice field to perform tests and work on autonomous programming with Mr. Sturge during lunch.
